Distillation

EIL has a acquired sufficient expertise in the distillation area and it remains as one of its strong design capabilities. To maintain its leadership and to remain contemporary with international level of developments, EIL has created world class Research and Development facilities and Databanks in this area. These are located at Gurgaon and National Chemical Laboratory, Pune.

Facilities at R&D Centre, Gurgaon

  • 100 mm dia metallic/glass columns which can provide upto 50 theoretical stages and operate from 200 mm hg to 10 kg/cm2. It is used to characterise unknown systems, generate HETP and point efficiency data. This facility is supplemented with a glass "Oldershaw" column.
  • 400 mm dia x 20 m high SS 316 distillation column and another one of 1200 mm dia x 14 m height in CS. These are used for investigating hydraulics and mass transfer for different kinds of column internals at conditions close to the industrial scale of operation.

Facilities at NCL, Pune

Distillation column of 200 mm dia x 3 M height is available for preliminary evaluation of column internals.

Data Bank

A large data bank covering physical properties, phase equilibria, stage efficiency etc. for various systems has been created to help the designers. This is based on :

  • Proprietary information
  • Operating plant feed back
  • Published information.
  • In addition to the in-house data, EIL has easy access to the FRI data bank and can quickly utilise this avenue for commercial design purposes, if required.
