Escalating energy costs have made it imperative that the existing plants be operated more efficiently and new plants designed for highest possible efficiency. Quite a substantial proportion (30 to 50%) of the energy consumed in the refinery and petrochemical industry is used as fuel in the fired heaters. The combustion test facility at Gurgaon is an important response to this requirement. Modelled after the conventional crude heater design, it has vertical upshot mode of firing. It has been designed for evaluating single full size burner under a variety of test conditions.
